ABOUT SOUND SESSION

SoundSession is New England's premier summer music festival in Rhode Island's capital city. A multi-stage, genre-defying event, the festival is produced by the Providence Black Repertory Company in collaboration with the City of Providence Department of Art, Culture + Tourism.

"CARNAVALE" SERIES

On the final night of every Sound Session, over 10,000 people from Providence and beyond gather in our capital city to express our identities, celebrate our culture, and participate in the legendary Carnival Parade! The Parade is not as much a procession as it is a chip, a two-step, a slide, or even a moonwalk! But beneath the surface of apparent bacchanal and revelry, it is a time to celebrate with friends, family and loved ones, so come on down and join us as we countdown to the sixth annual Carnival Parade!

THE VISION

Sound Session acts are selected the way a good DJ picks his tracks, participants will excite, educate, surprise and inspire the crowd. It’s in the mix - in the combination of cultures and styles - that artistic excellence stands out.

In 2009, peace and love of diverse audiences permeated the air, attendants were blessed with the sounds over 100 artists and musicians spanning almost any music imaginable.   This included some of the following:  Barrington Levy, Funmi,Ween, The Marc Cary Trio, Queen Omega, Claudia, Acuna, Alyssa, Graham, Edwin Pabon, Stella Starr, HBO Def Poets, Noble Society, Poorly Drawn People, Noreaga and Santa Mamaba to mention a few. Sound Session has also been a showcase and support for local and independent artists such as: Chachi, Starrs & Murph and Who Dem.
